Cats, Community, Compassion. Created in 2022 by a small group of complex residents, The Kitty Committee is is dedicated to creating a harmonious neighborhood through compassionate care for our outdoor feline friends. By feeding, nurturing, and advocating for spay and neuter programs, we ensure every cat leads a healthy, happy life.
Coney + Mildred
Caught in one of our Havaheart traps, a Kitty Committee member took them to UCAN to be spayed/neutered. After their Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR), they weren’t sure how to “act” in the wild. Presumed to be abandoned by their former owners, Coney and Mildred had no natural hunting or survival skills. We were lucky enough to make a connection at Animal Adoption Foundation to get these two house cats into a fur-ever home.
Waffles
This orange tabby was almost too smart for our humane cage to be trapped, neutered, and returned. Waffles lived as a community cat after his Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) for a year, but was convinced to live a posh indoor life with a current resident. He is much healthier and happier now indoors.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
TNR stands for “Trap, Neuter, Return.” The process is simple: community cats are humanely trapped (with our metal “Havaheart” cages), brought to a veterinary clinic to be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and eartipped (the universal sign that a cat has been spayed or neutered through a TNR program), then returned to the outdoor homes to which they are bonded so they can live out their lives where they thrive.
-
Apartment residents, among the 4 on our street, have abandoned their cats when moving out or let their unaltered cats roam freely outdoors. Overpopulation is a serious concern since a female cat can become pregnant as early as 5 months of age and have multiple litters each year, the number of cats in a neighborhood can rapidly increase if cats aren’t spayed or neutered.

Yes! We have worked closely with the complex’s management staff. They are aware of the situation and support the Kitty Committee as best they can.

We’re more than just neighbors, we’re residents with a purrr-pose.
